The Heroes We Are Seeking Stand Within Us

This is a workshop I have conducted just a few times thus far… still definitely a work-in-progress.  But I have received very positive feedback from every group I have worked with.

Essentially, this workshop can serve the purpose of helping others to use Beehive graphics to tell their own stories, or just simply to understand how it is possible to tell their own stories in ways that are engaging, compelling, and inspiring.  I borrow important insights not only from Beehive projects, but also the Center for Story-based Strategy, other educators and performers who have taught me tricks along the way, and not least of all, mythologist Joseph Campbell.

This most recent version took the shape of a 2-day weekend session with the KlimaKollektiv group in Berlin, Germany.  They wanted a deep, creative, and productive training in how to use The True Cost of Coal graphic to share stories of local coal mining and resistance.  By the end of two days, they had all the basic building blocks in place to do so.  Much more practice was needed, of course!  But I think it went really well.

Three major sections, with a couple of sub-sections.

  1. PRINCIPLES, LAYERS

2. NARRATIVE ARC (TCC)

– THE HERO NARRATIVE

3. THE BATTLE OF THE STORY

PRACTICE
